Conference brought together imams, ministers and rabbis -- along with other scholars in Christianity, Islam and Judaism -- to discuss religious leadership and human rights issues. A small number of imams from abroad will participate through a grant from the U.S. Insititue for Peace.

Main Topics: "The Concept of Human Rights within Christianity, Islam, and Judaism," "Human Trafficking and Slavery in the 21 Century," "Prisoner Treatment in Peace and War," "Role of Religion in the Public Square of a Pluralist Democracy," and "Human Rights Post 9-11, Civil Liberties and Respect for Immigrants and the Other."

This conference was planned in conjunction with the Office of the University Chaplain, American University, Rabbis for Human Rights, Imams for Human Rights and Dialogue, and Evangelicals for Human Rights. Imam Yahya Hendi and Yehezkel Landau discussed "The Role of Religion and Religious Leaders in Middle East Conflicts

"Religion in the Middle East: A Force for Violence or Peace?" was the topic of discussion, at Vassar College, between Imam Yahya Hendi, of Georgetown University, and Yehezkel Landau, of Hartford Seminary.
